TITLE:TWO WOMEN

MAKER:JULES PASCIN (1885-1930)

MATERIALS:CHALK AND WASH ON BOARD

DATE OF THE WORK:1928

ACQUIRED:1956

This is a painting which painted by pencil or carbon tube. These two women are really plump and haven’t wear shirts. We can get some notes from this painting that they feel very comfortable with each other .That is the reason why they sit so free.

When I first saw this drawing, I thought there must have some stories between these two girls. Maybe the right girl is going to have a wedding but the left girl loves her but she cannot tell the wedding girl her feeling. They have good past but it has gone. The lines in the drawing is very gentle and soft. If I want to show some gentle feelings in the future, I can get some ideas from this drawing.

TITLE:HEAD OF A “STAFF GOD”

MAKER:COOK ISLANDS, RAROTONGA

MATERIAL:WOOD

DATE OF THE WORK:LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY

ACQUIRED:1953

This is a long sculpture made by wood. There are 6 water lity which 3 of them have blooedm but other 3 didn’t. The six water lilies are staying under the long face . The introduction said this a “staff god”. God’s face has no expression. Just like the most gods in the world , gods have no emotion. They are spectators and just see the world in no words . Some of the gods even cannot be felt they are alive.

Because my specialist project is interior design , these water lilies can be decorated on the furnitures or wall. Of course , the room’s style must be mysterious and retro.

TITLE:CEREMONIAL SHIELD

MAKER:CENTRAL REGION, SOLOMON ISLANDS

MATERIAL:CANE, WOOD, GUM, SHELL

DATE OF THE WORK:EARLY/MID 19TH CENTURY

ACQUIRED:1975

This is long sculpture also made by wood and other materials. It looks like a section of surfboard. But I think the person on the board is there gold, too. About 5 people’s faces covered his. By the way, I found solomon island’s person advocate long bodies. In other words, global  aboriginal people advocate long bodies.

If we print this pattern into floor in cycle, that will be fancy. The room’s style must be mysterious and retro, too.

TITLE:STANDING WOMAN

MAKER:ALBERTO GIACOMETTI(1901-1966)

MATERIAL:BRONZE, EDITION OF 2

DATE OF WORK:1959

ACQUIRED:1959

This sculpture is in the same reason why the body and legs are so long. But it came from France. The surface of the sculpture is rugged and lumpy. Just like the surface of a 3D oil painting.

When I first saw this sculpture, I thought about our contemporary girls. The most girls think be pretty equals to be thin .So they stop eating and try to eat medicines to lose their weight. That is unhealthy . But in this sculpture, you can not only feel a kind of morbid beauty but also a feeling of power. The standing woman mixed the thin feeling and healthy feeling together in a very balance way.

TITLE:FACE WITH HANDS CROSSED

MAKER:ZORAN MUSIC(1909-2005)

MATERIAL:PASTEL ON PAPER

DATE OF WORK:1973

This pencil painting gave me a strong impression. Not only the person’s face but also the hands gesture. It makes me remember one of the Michelangelo’s painting. God’s hand would like to touch human’s hand ,but he didn’t touch human’s hand. This painting’s hands touched together but the face behind the hands looks really painful and been torment.

People live peaceful under the sunlight .But under the shadow ,everything has been hidden .People feel painful by others .They wouldn’t show that to other people because they have to put on a mask ,handshake and put up a kind of friendly to others. That feeling   is based on the real life. We do the same thing with the painting everyday. We are not happy but we cannot talk to others. At the same time, I realised why Chinese people always say that shadow must behind the light .

  • FIJI

Fiji , officially the Republic of Fiji,is an island country in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean about 1,100 nautical miles northeast of New Zealand’s North Island. Its closest neighbours are Vanuatu to the west, New Caledonia to the southwest, New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands to the southeast, Tonga to the east, the Samoas and France’s Wallis and Futuna to the northeast, and Tuvalu to the north.

We saw many of the Fiji’s products. I found the most of the products are made by colonises. And there are many triangles images on their products. Their wedding dresses are made by a special kind of material which is touched like paper and cotton.
